Hunting for a Treasurer

Hey everyone,

As I’m sure you all know next Monday is the AGM and although we’ve had someone go for all the critical positions we’re still in need of someone to go for treasurer.

The position requires you to keep receipts (keeping a running balance), deny and allow expenses and tot everything up at the end of both semesters.

Treasurers are not required to be any more involved than that.

A treasurer is required for the society to run so I hope that someone will step-up to the plate.

Events for Week 23 (Last Event before the AGM)

It’s all coming to an end! This is it, next Monday is the AGM so this is the last event.

Thursday 17th 6pm: An Introduction to Asatru and the Runes Rooms 1+2 (upstairs Student Centre).

We have Darryl Trainor coming in to do a workshop. He’s going to show us some Asatru rituals and do an introduction to the runes.

AGM Returning Officer Announced

Our returning officer for this year is past auditor Aoife, if you’re interested in becoming committee then email us at ucdpagan@gmail.com

Here are the positions and how they are described in the constitution;

Auditor

10. There shall be an Auditor who shall be the Chief Officer of the Society. They shall be elected at the Annual General Meeting of the Society held in the Trinity Term. Their term of office shall be from the end of the Trinity Term in which they are appointed until the same time the following year. The Auditor shall be entitled to preside at all General Meetings of the Society and at all meetings of the Committee. At meetings of the Committee the Auditor shall have a deliberative and a casting vote.

Secretary

11. There shall be a Secretary of the Society. They shall be elected at the Annual General Meeting of the Society held in the Trinity Term. Their term of office shall be from the end of the Trinity Term in which they are elected until the same time the following year. The duties of the Secretary shall include:
a) recording the Minutes of all meetings of the Society and of its committee
b) undertaking the correspondence of the Society as directed by the Auditor and the
Committee
c) keeping the records, other than financial records, of the Society
d) giving due notice of all meetings of the Committee of the Society to all Committee
members
e) presenting an Annual Secretarial Report to the Annual General Meeting of the
Society.

Treasurer

12. There shall be a Treasurer of the Society. They shall be elected at the Annual General Meeting of the Society held in the Trinity Term. Their term of office shall be from the end of the Trinity Term in which they are elected until the same time the following year. The duties of the Treasurer shall include:
a) managing the financial affairs of the Society
b) in association with the Senior Treasurer, maintaining and operating a bank account in the name of the Society
c) reporting on the state of the Society’s finances at the request of a Committee member
d) in co-operation with the Senior Treasurer, preparing an annual report on the financial transactions of the Society
e) presenting an Annual Financial Report to the Annual General Meeting of the Society
f) keeping a Roll of Members of the Society.

PRO

13. There shall be a Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Society. They shall be elected at the Annual General Meeting of the Society held in the Trinity Term. Their term of office shall be from the end of the Trinity Term in which they are elected until the same time the following year. The duties of the PRO shall include:
a) notifying members of any events being organised by the Society by means of notices
displayed in suitable public areas
b) notifying members of the venue of any General Meeting as well as any extraordinary
meetings by means of notices displayed in suitable public areas.

Librarian

14. There shall be a Librarian of the Society. They shall be elected at the Annual General Meeting of the Society held in the Trinity Term. Their term of office shall be from the end of the Trinity Term in which they are elected until the same time the following year. The duties of the Librarian shall include:
a) maintaining the Society Library
b) ensuring that the Society Library has a varied collection of material, dealing with all denominations of Paganism within the Society in so far as the Society funds will
allow
c) ensuring that members have sufficient access to the Society Library so that they may borrow material from the Society Library
d) managing the security deposit on materials within the Society Library
e) giving a report on the condition of the Society Library at the Annual General Meeting
f) liaising with the webmaster in the running of the Society Library
g) overseeing production of any society publications in the role of editor.

Webmaster

15. There shall be a Webmaster of the Society. They shall be elected at the Annual General
Meeting of the Society held in the Trinity Term. Their term of office shall be from the end of
the Trinity Term in which they are elected until the same time the following year. The duties of the Webmaster shall include:
a) maintaining the Society website
b) in the case of there being a moderated forum provided on the website, the webmaster
shall appoint moderators answerable to the webmaster and to the auditor of The
Society
c) liaising with the librarian in the running of the Society Library

The AGM is set as 21st April. It will be in the Blue Room at 6pm.

Those interested in becoming committee should read the Constitution and pass a written application with two members’ signatures to the Returning Officer (RO to be confirmed as soon as we have one will send contact details).

Wednesday 5th 6pm: Rooms 1+2 (upstairs Student Centre): “Bigotry On Campus”. Without a doubt all of us have been hit by bigotry in some way, this week’s group is all about the unfortunate presence of bigotry in UCD.

Also it looks like the evening events may be moving again, this time to Tuesday to accommodate more people. And of course if there’s an event you’d like us to run email us at ucdpagan@gmail.com

Thursday 6th 12-3pm: Coffee Morning Room 3 (upstairs Student Centre).

Finally, I hope you all have a good mid-term break, good luck with projects and please be aware that next term is AGM season so if you’re looking to get involved now is the time.

Wednesday 27th 6pm: Room3 (upstairs Student Centre): Our second Discussion Group of the year, “From Wicker Man to Buffy: 30 Years of Paganism in Pop-Culture”.

Wednesday 20th 6pm: Room3 (upstairs Student Centre): Our first Discussion Group of the year, “Coming Out of the Broom-Closet”. We’ll be discussing what it was like for those who have told family and friends that they are pagan and what’s the best way of going about it.

Next week we’ll have ”The Effect of Popular Pagan Imagery”.
