The AGM is set as 21st April. It will be in the Blue Room at 6pm.
Those interested in becoming committee should read the Constitution and pass a written application with two members’ signatures to the Returning Officer (RO to be confirmed as soon as we have one will send contact details).
Positions available are;
Monday 28th 6pm: Library Grand Opening, we’ll meet-up Down-stairs in the Science Building Hub.
Tuesday 29th 6-9pm: Religion in Pop-Culture (South Park, Family Guy and others), Th.A Science Hub.
Wednesday 30th 11am-2pm: Coffee Morning, Room 3 upstairs Student Centre.
Thursday 31st
9am-6pm: We will have a table in the Astra Hall for anyone who missed us during Freshers’ Week.
6-9pm: Imbolg Pot-Luck Party, Rooms 1-3 upstairs Student Centre.
It’s our annual pot-luck (you bring the food of it’s €3 at the door) we’re hoping to have a good selection (come to the coffee morning to help avoid bring what everyone else will).

Samhain is considered by most Wiccans as a celebration of death and of the dead, and it often involves paying respect to ancestors, family members, elders of the faith, friends, pets and other loved ones who have died.

The Irish word Samhain is derived from the Old Irish samain, samuin, or samfuin, all referring to 1 November (latha na samna: ’samhain day’) and the festival and royal assembly held on that date in medieval Ireland (oenaig na samna: ’samhain assembly’).

Bonfires played a large part in the festivities celebrated down through the last several centuries, and up through the present day in some rural areas of the Celtic nations and the diaspora. Villagers were said to have cast the bones of the slaughtered cattle upon the flames.

The Samhain celebrations have survived in several guises as a festival dedicated to the harvest and the dead. In Ireland and Scotland, the Féile na Marbh, the ‘festival of the dead’ took place on Samhain.

The Cath Maige Tuireadh (Battle of Mag Tuired) takes place on Samhain. The deities Morrígan and Dagda meet and have sex before the battle against the Fomorians; in this way the Morrígan acts as a sovereignty figure and gives the victory to The Dagda’s people, the Tuatha Dé Danann.
